Digital Animation for Educators

As part of the Learning Enhancement Projects Funding Scheme, the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering is offering an intensive 3 day course on 3D animation for educators. 

The course aims to teach the basics of 3D animation for the purpose of enhancing education, in particular as we become increasingly reliant on remote learning. Animation is a powerful tool that can help students understand complex topics across the range of subjects taught in UCD, not just engineering and science. 

The course will use the free and open source 3D creation suite Blender ((opens in a new window)https://www.blender.org)

The course will consist of 5 intensive sessions delivered over three days via Zoom.

Friday August 14th
Session 1: 11:00 – 13:00
Session 2: 16:00 – 17:00
Monday August 17th
Session 3: 11:00 – 13:00
Session 4: 16:00 – 17:00
Tuesday August 18th
Session 5: 11:00 – 13:00
Two tiers of participants will be accommodated. 
Tier 1 will have provided an outline, storyboard, or similar of a distinct piece of content they wish to create.
This may be an animation showing the operation of a particular mechanism or an abstract concept. These participants will be guided on the particular needs of their proposed projects throughout the course. There is capacity for eight Tier 1 participants. 
Tier 2 participants will primarily be viewers only with limited direct participation during sessions. As a result there is no limit to the number of Tier 2 participants. Offline support is available.
