A Sustainable Future

CEA Strategy for Research, Innovation & Impact 2025-30

Vision & Mission

Our vision is to support and drive national and global society to achieve a just transition to a sustainable, prosperous and equitable future.

Our mission is to bring together unique interdisciplinary partnerships to advance basic and applied research, technical expertise and innovation to deliver a more sustainable future.

Rationale

Sustainability represents the most significant issue of our times. The (opens in a new window)UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) are a “blueprint for a more sustainable and better future”, with a focus on the environment, health, economic growth and reduced inequality. In its broadest terms sustainability encompasses not only environmental sustainability, but also economic, competitive and technical sustainability.

The professionals that we educate in our College: engineers, scientists, architects, environmental policy makers and planners; are at the forefront of creating, promoting and implementing sustainable solutions. Our graduates are key to enabling society to achieve a just transition to a sustainable, prosperous and equitable future. Uniquely, our College conducts research and leads in the development of engineering technologies, infrastructure, policy and planning, required to create the policies and inform the regulatory environment to implement impactful sustainable development. Our established international leadership in areas including energy, manufacturing and materials, environment and the circular economy, the internet of things, biomedical engineering, health, creativity and design provide the foundation to do so.

While sustainability is the core focus of our research mission, we strongly value the diverse range of research carried out across the College. The College will strive to support researchers across all areas to conduct research in a manner that is sustainable, ensuring that this is at the core of our decision making.
