“Why the World Needs Geologists:
Career Opportunities in Geoscience”
UCD Geology Workshop

Would you like to find out how geologists help to tackle 21 st century societal challenges, such as climate change, natural hazards and the demands of a growing population for energy, mineral and water resources? Are you interested in taking a Science Degree with a strong emphasis on field work and good employment prospects? If so, this workshop is designed for you.
Geology is a broad science subject that draws on biology, chemistry, geography, maths, physics. This does not require you to be an ‘expert’ in every one of these areas, however. Many graduates follow their interests and strengths, and after their BSc degree they specialise in an area are particularly interested in.
Our Geology BSc graduates are highly regarded by employers and are employed in a wide variety of careers in industries such as the petroleum sector and mining, in jobs addressing climate change and water supply, in environmental monitoring and remediation, in engineering and construction, and even in the financial sector.
This workshop is designed to give you an insight into life as a UCD Geology student and into geological careers. It will include taster lectures, mini practical exercises and opportunities for problem-solving.
Places are limited to 50. Priority will be given to students taking their final school examinations (e.g. leaving cert, A-levels, Baccalaureate) in 2020, but students in the penultimate year of their final school examinations are also welcome to apply. Registration is free. Lunch will be provided free of charge.
PLEASE NOTE: Entry to the BSc Geology in UCD is through DN200 Science. Students studying Archaeology or Geography as a Major within the DN700 Social Sciences programme can take a Minor in Geology.
