Conference: Financial stability policies in a changing lending landscape - Call for papers
When 04 December 2023 9:00 AM
Where Central Bank of Ireland Dockland Campus, North Wall Quay
Hosted in person at the Central Bank of Ireland Dockland Campus in Dublin, 4 -5 December 2023.
This conference invites submissions from researchers working on topics that can contribute to the evolution in the macroprudential and financial stability policy agenda in light of higher inflation and interest rates, and the growing importance of non-bank financial intermediaries.
Having been conceived, implemented and analysed in many developed economies in a low-interest rate environment, in which banks dominated lending to many sectors of the real economy, macroprudential policymaking is now adapting to a changed lending landscape. The growing reach of non-bank financial intermediaries into many pockets of lending markets has been a feature of the global recovery from the 2008 crisis, and accentuated during the prolonged period of low rates preceding 2022.
The recent inflationary shock has necessitated a sharp monetary policy tightening which poses a series of questions relating to the resilience of borrowers, as well as to the appropriate calibration of macroprudential policies under higher interest rates. This conference invites submissions from researchers working on topics that can contribute to this evolution in the macroprudential and financial stability policy agenda, with a particular focus on lending.
Submissions in the following areas are particularly welcome:
- The role of inflation in financial intermediation and financial resilience.
- The calibration of macroprudential policies for lenders or borrowers in a high interest rate environment.
- The role of non-bank financial intermediaries in lending markets and cyclical developments.
- Macroprudential policy responses to the growing importance of non-bank lenders.
- The interaction between monetary policy and macroprudential policy in a high inflation environment.
