Celebrations all round for first M.Sc. Mathematics & Science Education graduates
Jenny Costello, Deirdre Creegan, and Bronagh Walsh were each awarded their MSc. Science and Mathematics Education degree on December 3rd at a ceremony in UCD.
UCD offers undergraduate science students the opportunity to blend teacher education with their science and mathematics degree. Following a 4 year BSc. in Mathematics, Science and Education through DN200, students take a 1 year MSc. that seems them qualified to teach mathematics as well as physics, chemistry, biology, or applied mathematics. The degrees are offered jointly by the School of Education, the School of Mathematics and Statistics and College fo Science.
Speaking at the commencement ceremony, MSc. director Dr Shane Bergin was quoted as saying "It's been a pleasure to work with these students. The quality of their scholarship and professionalism has been remarkable. We are so proud of our graduates and wish them many happy years of teaching".
Director of the undergraduate BSc. programmes, Dr Aoibhinn Ní Shuilleabháin, has said "As our first graduates of the BSc. & MSc. programmes, we are very proud of these newly qualified student teachers who have shown tremendous commitment to education and scholarship. We are delighted that UCD will continue to contribute to the Irish education system by educating high-quality STEM teachers for future post-primary pupils."
