On Wednesday evening, the BEd students in second year had the opportunity to take part in an engaging session on Irish Sign Language. The session began with an introduction followed by a brief history of the system. Practical tips for successful communication were shared with the students, and the importance of ISL in fostering inclusivity and communication within the community. A  demonstration of the 10 most common signs was also given to the students, offering a hands-on learning experience for all participants. It was a great way for everyone to expand their knowledge and appreciation of sign language. Some students enjoyed the session so much that they will continue to learn about ISL by completing a certificate. They hope that this will be beneficial to the students in their care and in their future careers as post-primary language teachers.
