EGA Autumn Panel Discussion 2018

The UCD Engineering Graduates Association were delighted this year to welcome a panel of experts to deliver the EGA's Autumn Panel Discussion on “Engineering Better Health - The Coming Together of Engineering and Health Care ”, on October 4th 2018 in the UCD Engineering & Materials Science Centre.

Ireland remains the location of choice for the development and manufacture of all types of  medical technology. We can proudly boast about the fact that Ireland is one of the world’s top five medical technology hubs and thirteen of the top fifteen global medtech companies have bases in this country. This sector is one of the most important sectors in Ireland at the moment, with over 350 medtech companies (of which 152 are home grown) employing over 6,500 people and generating over €600m in sales and €400m in exports for the Irish exchequer.

Speakers:

  • Mr Michael Ryan - Software Support Engineer, Dairymaster
  • Prof Ronan Cahill - Professor of Surgery, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
  • Prof Madeleine Lowery - Professor, UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Mr Fran Hegarty - Chief Healthcare Technology Officer, New Children's Hospital Dublin

Special thanks to our panelists for their thoughts on how smart engineering has improved the fields of Agriculture, Technological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Medicine.
