On Wednesday 25 October, the UCD Engineering Graduates Association (EGA) were joined by a panel of experts at University College Dublin to cover topical issues surrounding Engineering Ethics and the future of AI.
Both (opens in a new window)Sean Lang, Data Science Lead at Altair and (opens in a new window)Aidan Connolly, CEO of Idiro Analytics gave informative and thought provoking presentations followed by a Q&A session led by (opens in a new window)Dr Richard Manton, Registrar of Engineers Ireland (MC for the event). The event ended with a Q&A session gave our audience members a great chance to engage with our panelists about the applications of AI in both our lives and the profession of engineering.
We heard that while AI can help us become more efficient and effective in what we do as engineers, the technology is not without challenges and limitations. With greater reliance on AI also brings challenges: more often than not, the challenge in AI technology is not what it can do, but whether it should be done.
