NexSys Researchers attend interdisciplinary summer school in UCD

Energy Institute / NexSys Researchers attend interdisciplinary summer school in UCD

Energy Institute and NexSys researchers attended the ReSToRE (Researching Social Theories, Resources, and Environment) summer school which took place in University College Dublin (UCD) from 1 to 5 July.

The summer school brought together a diverse cohort of 45 early career researchers and professionals from 11 developing and 9 developed countries, all gathered to explore questions around the transition to a low carbon economy.

Participants came from countries ranging from Nepal, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Mexico, to the Netherlands, Sweden and Ireland.

NexSys researchers in attendance included Cheng Ma, PhD researcher in UCD’s College of Business, and Oscar Mooney, research assistant in UCD’s College of Business.

ESB, one of NexSys’ industry partners, also took part in the summer school, contributing a case study for participants to discuss in their workshops.

ReSToRE Director Dr Geertje Schuitema, who is also a NexSys funded investigator at UCD’s School of Business, said the summer school drew “from the social sciences, humanities, and natural and physical sciences to examine how we might transition to a low-carbon society in ways that are socially acceptable, economically affordable, and technically feasible.”

ReSToRE was jointly organised by iCRAG, the SFI Research Centre in Applied Geosciences, and the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), and held under the patronage of UNESCO.
