UCD Energy Institute appoints Dr. Fergal McNamara as Adjunct Professor to support leadership in Energy Policy.
UCD Energy Institute is delighted to announce that Dr. Fergal McNamara has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor to support the Institute’s leadership in energy policy and energy finance.
As an energy professional with diverse experience spanning almost four decades, Fergal’s expertise in energy policy has breadth and depth from national and international roles. In particular, Fergal’s sustained contributions to providing and evaluating the evidence basis for national and international energy policy is of note and is as important as ever as the energy transition continues.
Fergal is currently active in (opens in a new window)NexSys, the Energy Institute’s flagship programme, where he serves as an industry expert on its Industry & Impact Advisory Committee.
Professor Andrew Keane, Director of the UCD Energy Institute and NexSys, said, “Fergal has been actively involved in energy policy, regulation and investment and has led some pivotal activities in the sector in his career. The Energy Institute is a collaboration between academic, industry, civil society and public sector, strongly focused on interdisciplinary solutions for real-world problems. The energy transition needs a multi-faceted approach to policy in the face of the climate crisis, and in line with the Institute’s mission to bring evidence-based solutions, I am delighted that Fergal will be working with us to achieve this ambition.”

About Fergal McNamara, PhD DIC BE FIEI
Dr Fergal McNamara is Senior Policy Director at Davy Corporate Finance where he works with investors and firms who are engaging with the Energy Transition.
Prior to joining Davy in 2022, Fergal held several key senior roles across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa, including: Group Manager at ESB for Regulation and Policy; Chairman of the Distribution and Market Facilitation Committee of Eurelectric; Chairman of the Irish National Committee of the World Energy Council; Senior Energy Advisor at the Irish Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (now Department of Energy, Climate and Communications); Head of Capacity Marketing Design at the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change.
He is currently co-chair of the Climate and Energy Group at the Institute for International and European Affairs (IIEA), Ireland’s leading international affairs think tank. Fergal is an alumnus of UCD and active in the Energy Institute.
