Start of Academic Year Celebration

Thursday, 31 August from 12-3pm
On Thursday, 31 August we held a celebration for employees marking the start of the academic year and giving you an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and campus life. The informal lunch on the lawns of O’Reilly Hall ran from 12pm to 3pm and we encouraged all employees to attend.

Employee 'Open Mic' Stage
As well as a range of lunch offerings, ice cream and buskers, a number of colleagues have kindly volunteered to perform on our 'open mic' stage.
- Staff Music Group
- Established in 2022, the music group brings together current and retired employees who play in support of the UCD Community Choir or at community (opens in a new window)events around the university. Members have a very broad range of musical backgrounds and experience and new members are always welcome. - Irina is a music and theatre lover from UCD ALL who also performs with the Community Choir.
- Joseph is a classically trained jazz musician from the James Joyce Library who has performed in several clubs around Dublin.
- Gregori is a guitarist from Arts & Humanities who loves all collaborations and performances which bring people together for enjoyment.

- Singer and guitarist from the School of Business performing songs from the 1950's / 1960's Greenwich Village.

Ciarán agus Peadar Mac Eachain

Ciarán Mac Eachain is an accomplished uilleann piper and a 3rd year student in UCD College of Social Sciences and Law. He will be joined by his brother Peadar, also a piper. Both are active members of Cumann na bPíobairí (the Dublin Pipers' Club). Accompanying the pipers will be a sean-nós dancer.

- Peter Scott
- Singer and guitarist from UCD Research. Peter has been playing guitar since the early 1990s, and played with several bands through to the late 2000s in various Dublin venues. He now just plays for fun.

- Kylabelle is a busker who performed at last year's Employee Day and returns with some more contemporary pop busking.
- Catherine Brady
- Singer from the School of Medicine. Catherine will be joined by Dave and Ian from the Staff Music Group.
