2024 Annual Commuting Update
August 2024
Please note some key updates and information to help you plan your journey to campus for the coming academic year.
Public Transport
- Download the TFI Live app for real time public transport information, timetables & routes
- The Belfield Campus is served by a 24 hour bus service, 7 days a week. The 39a bus arrives and departs from the campus bus terminus
- The S4 and S6 bus services pass through areas of Dublin where many staff live. If you currently drive to campus try taking the bus one day a week
- The 142 bus now serves campus bus stops at the rear of the Newman Building and the UCD Village. The 142 bus now starts and finishes at the UCD Village
- Following low levels of passenger numbers, the Belfield – Blackrock shuttle will not be returning this year. Passengers who used this service can take the S6 bus from UCD Village or the Bus Terminus to Blackrock Village, approximately 650m from the Blackrock Campus
Cycling & Walking
- UCD staff can apply for the Cycle to Work scheme to purchase new pedal, electric and cargo bikes and save significantly. Learn more about the scheme on the HR Website
- The Merville House Pedestrian and Cycle Entrance is open on the R138 (N11). This entrance brings cyclists, pedestrians and public transport users traveling northbound (towards the city centre) into campus before the R138 (N11) entrance and connects to the centre of campus via shared surfaces at Glenomena Student Residences and Belfield House.
Driving to Campus & Parking
Demand for parking spaces exceeds demand at peak daytime periods throughout the core academic year. There is a cap on the maximum number of parking spaces the University can provide.
If your vehicle has been clamped, please note that a clamping appeals process is in place via Apcoa & the National Transport Authority. Contact the phone number on your enforcement notice to arrange payment and release.
Parking Permits:
- Permit parking comes back into effect on Monday 9th September 2024
- You must hold a current, valid parking permit from September 9th to park in designated Permit Car Parks. A parking permit is not an entitlement or guarantee of a parking space.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a parking permit with the correct vehicle registration number
- Parking permits and the Guide to Parking on Campus (including a map of parking areas on campus) are now available for sale and to view here
- Parking Permits are not valid in Pay and Display car parks
Pay & Display Parking
- Pay and Display parking comes back into effect on Monday 9th September 2024
- If you are inviting guests to campus they should be advised to use public transport in the first instance where possible. Guests driving cars to campus should be advised to park in Pay and Display parking spaces and must pay the relevant fee.
