Export Controls

What are Export Controls?

Export Controls are (opens in a new window)laws that restrict the movement (export) of certain goods, technologies, and services.

  • Export Controls laws have existed in the EU since (opens in a new window)1994, but they are more important than ever with the current geopolitical landscape.
  • Export Controls exist globally as a way contribute to international security and to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), whether it be biological, chemical or nuclear.

In 2021, the EU expanded its commitment to the legal requirements and strengthened guidance to exporters, particularly for research institutions like UCD.
