Alumni Fund Grant Awards 2010
New ERA (Equal Right to Access) Scholarships are awarded to bright, able students who, for a variety of social or economic reasons, might face a barrier to attending university. The Alumni Fund is a committed supporter of this programme and awarded the sum of €96,000 to fund twelve scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded to students based on their socio-economic background.
The Student Support Fund is a Student's Union fund that helps students in buying essential academic materials like books, lab coats, dissection kits, etc. It was awarded €10,000, which on average will help 100 students in need.
The Student Welfare Fund provides support for students who encounter financial difficulties during their time at UCD. They fund hardship requests from students for rent, travel, food, bills and family support. The fund supports students in real financial difficulty on large scale. They were awarded €20,000, which will help approximately fifty students this year.
The Summer Medical Electives Programme awards scholarships to Stage 4 and 5 medical students to support international study and research opportunities in North America and the developing world. They were awarded €10,000, which will fund five electives in summer 2011.
UCD Choral Scholars is an award-winning vocal ensemble. With scholarships awarded by a panel of professional musicians, successful students from all academic disciplines have the opportunity to enjoy the challenge of participation in the Choral Scholars. They were awarded €18,000 to fund all of the scholarships for this year.
The UCD Sports Scholarships scheme gives talented young people the opportunity of developing their sporting career by offering the highest standards in coaching, training, nutrition, strength and conditioning advice, while also completing their chosen course of study. The Alumni Fund awarded €16,000 to fund eight GAA scholarships and €12,000 to fund six rugby scholarships.
The UCD Symphony Orchestra is a platform for musical talent within the student and staff body on campus. The Orchestra were awarded €10,000 was awarded to fund twenty scholarships.
