BICS 2024/2025
After its remarkable success on its first year, the Geary Institute announced in May 2024 the return of the BICS funding scheme for the 2024/2025 academic year and in response, we received many excellent funding applications. In the 2024/2025 BICS call, the UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice was the most successful, with four applications approved, followed by the UCD School of Economics, with three approved applications, followed by the UCD School of Politics and International Relations (SPIRe), UCD School of Psychology, UCD School of Sociology and the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School with one approved application each.

BICS 2023/2024
The new seed funding scheme, BICS ‘The Building International Collaborations Supports,’ resulted in a series of exchange visits from international collaborators. The BICS scheme was introduced to support international collaborations and foster publications and research funding applications. UCD Geary Institute members invited researchers from various academic and research centres worldwide.
As a result, in the 2023/2024 academic year, Geary Institute hosted the following BICS funded events:

| 'From moral critique to moral politics: Bridging everyday struggles and structural transformations in the housing crises' seminar took place on 24th October, 2023. It was presented by Dr Adam Standring from De Montfort University, Leicester, UK and Orebro University, Sweden. Dr Standring was invited by Dr Matthew Donoghue from UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice. |
| ‘Global Perspectives on Ireland’s Tax Expenditures’ seminar took place on October 26th, 2023. It was presented by Dr Agustin Redonda and Mr Flurim Aliu of the Council on Economic Policies (CEP), Zurich, Switzerland. | On 7th November, 2023 Dr Katja Upadyaya from University of Helsinki, Finland presented a talk entitled: ‘Job burnout, parental burnout, and study burnout: how are they associated with each other?’ Dr Upadyaya was invited by Professor Jennifer Symonds from UCD School of Education |
| ‘Overconfidence, Feedback and Job Search Behavior’ talk took place on 28th November 2023. The speaker was Professor Ingo Isphording and invited by Dr Ben Elsner from School of Economics, UCD. Professor Isphording visited from IZA – Institute of Labor Economics in Bonn, Germany |
