Royal Thai Embassy Photography Competition: Terms and conditions

  • This Photography Competition is organised by the Royal Thai Embassy, London (here after referenced as ‘RTE’) to select two candidates to visit Thailand and take photos for the photo exhibition.
  • The selected candidates (here after referenced as ‘the winner’).
  • The winner of the competition will be required to visit Thailand on the fully funded trip provided by RTE during 29th May 2023 - 3rd June 2023.
  • Fully funded trip includes air ticket from Dublin - Bangkok - Dublin, accommodations and transportation, full board food throughout the stay in Thailand. Additional daily stipends will not be provided.
  • The winner will be required to take photos during their trip to Thailand under theme “Reimagining Thailand Through Irish’s Lens : Entertainment, Innovation, and Sustainability” , aiming to present a unique representation of Thailand through the following categories,

    (1) Entertainment: Arts and Culture / Tourism destination / hospitality, 

    (2) Innovation: creative/ innovative industries / smart cities / new smart infrastructure,

    (3) Sustainability: Bio Circular Green (BCG) economy/ sustainable development

  • Students must submit entries to two out of the three listed competition categories
  • The trip will be prepared by RTE through close consultation with the winner. 
  • The photos taken during the trip will then be used at the photo exhibition organized by RTE in Dublin with credit given to the winner. 

Ownership of the selected photos for the exhibition (taken during the trip to Thailand)

  • The copyright of the photos selected for the exhibition will belong to RTE. Any use of the photos will be at the discretion of RTE with notification to the winner. 
  • All selected photos for the exhibition may neither be sold nor be used for any marketing purpose for private organizations. Any use for marketing purpose shall seek consent of RTE.

 

How to enter

  • The opening date for entries is 13/02/2023 The closing date of the prize draw is 23:59 (Irish Standard Time) 13/03/2023. Entries received after this date will not be accepted.
  • All entries must be submitted via the Competition Submission google drive folder
  • The Photography Competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
  • The RTE will not accept:
    (a) responsibility for entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
    (b) proof of transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the Photography Competition.

  • The RTE reserves the right to refuse entry, or refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions.
  • The Photography Competition is open to students studying at University College Dublin, excepting anyone directly associated with administration of the competition.
  • No more than 3 entries per person are permitted.
  • Students must submit entries to two out of the three listed competition categories.
  • Photographs must not have been taken more than 1 year prior to the competition opening date of 13/02/2023.
  • Entries must not have been selected as a winner in any other competition prior to the opening date of 13/02/2023.
  • In entering the Photography Competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win. The RTE may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the Photography Competition.
  • The RTE reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the Photography Competition.
  • Entries should be no larger than 10MB and be at least 300dpi, and should be submitted as either JPEG or TIFF files with no watermarks, signatures or borders included.
  • Permitted digital adjustments include tone and contrast, cropping, burning, sharpening, dodging, noise reduction, minor cleaning work, HDR, stitched panoramas, and/or within-camera focus stacking using multiple exposure taken at the same location at the same time. Any adjustments MUST be reported within the description and should not misrepresent the reality of nature.  
  • Entries must be accompanied by a description. 
  • Images must not be false-coloured.

 

  • The competition entries will be judged by a panel of judges of UCD and RTE based on 2 key criteria: they should be aesthetically pleasing, and convey the key message of Entertainment, Innovation, or Sustainability of Ireland in the views of each contestant
  • The winner of the competition will be notified by email or telephone (using details provided at entry). If a winner does not respond to the RTE within 7 days of being notified, then the winner’s prize will be forfeited and the RTE will be entitled to select another winner in accordance with the process described above.
  • The prizes are non-exchangeable and non-transferable. Any additional expenses in claiming of the prizes including local taxes (if any) shall be the responsibility of the winner. 
  • The decision of the RTE regarding any aspect of the Photography Competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it.
  • The RTE reserves the right to hold void, cancel, suspend, or amend the promotion where it becomes necessary to do so.
  • Any entry must be your original work and it must not infringe the rights of third parties including copyright, trade mark, trade secrets, privacy, publicity, personal or proprietary rights.  You agree to indemnify the RTE against any claim from any third party for any breach of this clause.
  • Full copyright title shall be retained by the author of any entry. By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material (including any text, photographs, graphics, video or audio), you agree that the RTE may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website and any other media in connection with any publicity of the competition or otherwise. You agree to grant the RTE a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry and any accompanying materials for any legitimate purposes, including, but not limited to, marketing, publicity, advertising, fundraising and presentations.
  • By submitting an entry, you agree to waive any moral rights contained in your entry.
  • For the avoidance of doubt, by submitting your entry you warrant that all persons featured in your entry have given you their express consent for their image to be used and, in the case of vulnerable adults or persons under 18 years of age, you warrant that you have obtained express consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
  • By submitting an entry, you warrant that no animals were harmed or manipulated in the making of the image.
  • The RTE is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and will only use your personal information in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and the Royal Thai Embassy’s Privacy Policy which is available on our website: XX
  • By entering the Photography Competition, you agree that any personal information provided by you with your entry may be held and used by the RTE or its agents and suppliers to administer the competition.
  • Winners may be required to participate in publicity related to the Photography Competition which may include the publication of their name and photograph in any media. You agree that your personal data may be used for this purpose.
  • The RTE may run an online rating process whereby members of the public may vote for a favourite photograph. If there is sufficient evidence (in the Royal Thai Embassy’s sole discretion) to suggest malpractice and manipulation of the rating process, then the RTE has the right to remove the relevant entry or entries and, if necessary, award the prize to a different contestant. The Royal Thai Embassy’s decisions are final.
  • The Photography Competition will be governed by Irish law and entrants to the prize draw submit to the jurisdiction of the Irish courts.
  • The RTE is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and will only use your personal information in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
