Guidance for US Home School Applicants

All students seeking to enter University College Dublin must meet the following via a recognized education pathway:

Minimum Matriculation
+
General Entry Requirements

Subject Requirements (where applicable to the course of entry)

Details on these requirements as related to home school students are below.

Minimum Matriculation Requirements

To be eligible to matriculate at University College Dublin, you must at minimum hold a valid US High School diploma that is recognized by your state/territory. If you will not be awarded a recognized high school diploma, you must present with a passing score on a recognized high school equivalency exam. Accepted exams are the GED, HiSET, TASC, or CHSPE.

General Entry Requirements

In addition to meeting matriculation requirements, applicants must meet the entry requirements for the course(s) to which they are applying. You can review the Entry Requirements for US Curriculum Applicants on our website.

UCD will accept a high school GPA from a home school curriculum when the applicant’s transcript has been issued by an accredited school district or education agency, in combination with any completed standardised exams (SAT, ACT, AP, etc) or college/university experience, to determine whether entry requirements have been met.

If you hold a recognized high school diploma but will not be in receipt of a transcript using a standard grading scale that is issued by an accredited school district or education agency, then you must submit at least one of the following to meet minimum Entry Requirements:

GED Score of at least 145 for exams taken after 2013
Or
three passing AP scores taken in Grade 11 or 12 with scores of at least 3 in two of them;
Or
college/university transcripts with equivalent of one year full time credit received and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 out of 4.0

Subject Requirements

Some courses require specific achievements in certain subjects to meet minimum entry requirements. These subject requirements are listed on the Entry Requirements for US Curriculum Applicants on our website.

Where subject requirements can be met by US High School grades, home schooling applicant grades will only be accepted when in receipt of a transcript using a standard grading scale that is issued by an accredited school district or education agency.

In all other cases, applicants will need to meet the stated subject requirements to be eligible for entry, either via recognised standardised exams or college/university experience.

If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact the North America Global Centre.
