Following a period of restricted international mobility over the past two years, UCD has seen an energising return in travel via the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) Programme. Under Erasmus+ ICM, prospective mobilities are currently in the works, with several already having taken place.
Vietnam
In April of this year, (opens in a new window)Professor Nguyen Truong Giang of the (opens in a new window)University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) in Hanoi visited the UCD School of Geography for a cultural and geographical knowledge exchange with UCD graduate students. Following this experience, a team from the UCD School of Geography led by (opens in a new window)Dr. Christine Bonnin, travelled to (opens in a new window)Hanoi University (HANU) to expand on prior collaborations between UCD and HANU students. A mobility is also on the horizon for an outgoing Ph.D. student travelling to USSH this month with the goal of knowledge transfer of francophone literary studies with students at the Faculty of Literature. These mobilities will deepen the educational and research collaborations taking place between UCD and its Vietnamese partners and promote future exchange prospects among staff and students.
United States
In April, (opens in a new window)Professor Anna McCarthy of (opens in a new window)New York University (NYU) was hosted by the Clinton Institute As part of her visit, Prof. McCarthy hosted a screening and discussion of the film (opens in a new window)Recorder: The Marion Stokes Project to students, led a discussion with (opens in a new window)Dr. Anthony McIntyre on the launch of his book Contemporary Irish Popular Culture and hosted workshops and one-on-one meetings with UCD students to discuss their research and U.S. academic publishing. This exchange spurred NYU’s involvement in Clinton Institute’s project Modalities of Irishness and bolstered future research collaborations between the two institutions.
Mozambique
In June, Dr. Rogers Hansine visited UCD’s School of Geography from (opens in a new window)Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), Maputo to complete the workshop Drones - Data Processing, Visualization, and Modelling. The practice allowed for the transfer of information and experiences between the two institutions, thus improving the quality of teaching and research. A further mobility is planned for the Autumn trimester, with Dr. Inês Raimundo visiting from UEM.
Tanzania
Over the course of the summer, four faculty members from UCD’s School of Archaeology, including (opens in a new window)Dr. Annalisa Christie and (opens in a new window)Assoc. Prof. Meriel McClatchie, will be travelling to the (opens in a new window)University of Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam for teaching and training opportunities. During the course of their stay, staff will carry out laboratory analysis and field-based education. The desired outcome is a more comprehensive understanding of Tanzanian archaeology and the sharing of different practices and standards in archaeological conservation.
Kenya
Two outgoing staff mobilities to (opens in a new window)Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST), Meru are in the planning stages for late August. (opens in a new window)Dr. Niamh Harbourne and (opens in a new window)Dr. Jean-Christope Jacquier from the School of Agriculture & Food Science will be travelling to Kenya to build on our collaboration in the area of food security, bioeconomy and strengthening health systems.
