Re-launch of UCD Global Lounge

The UCD Global Lounge was re-launched in December following a six month renovation project. First opened in 2011, the Global Lounge has held over 1,500 events. Located in the lower ground floor of the Gerard Manley Hopkins Centre, the multi-functional space enables students, staff and the wider UCD community to build connections with each other and the world around them.

The Global Lounge is managed by the Global Experience Team in UCD Global. The team includes staff and students who are highly skilled in the areas of student support and event management. 

Some examples of events which have taken place in the Global Lounge in recent years include:

  • National Day celebrations
  • Irish language & music events
  • Talks on outbound mobility opportunities
  • UCDVO Development Education courses
  • Student Society events 
  • Multicultural Employee Network meet-ups
  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Strategy Launch 

 

The Global Guides are students employed by UCD Global to assist with events in the Global Lounge. The team offers peer-to-peer advice and support on event planning and room set-up. They also provide information for students on UCD and student life, create content for UCD Global’s digital channels and conduct campus tours.

Opening hours:

9am to 9pm, Monday to Friday, during the teaching term.

9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, outside of the teaching term. 

The Global Lounge is available for weekend event bookings.

 

Equipment available:

  • LED screen
  • Built-in AV equipment: speakers, amplifier and microphones
  • Webcam, speakers and lighting for video recording & conference calls
  • Podium
  • Laptop, HDMI / VGA ports
  • Satellite channels
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Board games
  • Book swap
  • Kitchenette for tea/coffee preparation
  • Tables for catering 

 

Capacity & Layouts:

Pod-style: 40 chairs, 10 round tables 

Theatre-style: 65 chairs

High-top tables x 4, high-stools x 8

Sofas x 2, arm chairs x 2: can be moved for different event layouts.

 

How to book the Lounge:

The Global Lounge is available for booking by all UCD students and staff. We encourage users to engage diverse audiences in their events and to consider ways to increase integration between domestic and international audiences.
