UCD Raises Profile with Incoming Delegations

In January and February 2020, UCD Global hosted high-level visits from Brazil, China, Singapore, Spain, the UK and the USA.

Two incoming groups from Brazil visited UCD in January as part of a tour of Irish universities, arranged by Education in Ireland. The first group were educators from a prestigious group of high schools in Brazil (Efigie), and two high profile journalists. The group of educators were learning about bilingual education, professional development for educators and the admissions process for Brazilian students.  The second group were a group of agents from various locations in Brazil (Belta) that visited UCD to learn about programme offerings and admissions. UCD Global, Enterprise Ireland and delegates were very grateful to colleagues in UCD Global, UCD School of Education, UCD Applied Language Centre and UCD Vice President Internationalisation for Science, Professor Jez Simpson, for their time presenting. Both groups met with current Brazilian students and faculty from UCD.

The majority of UCD’s engagement with Brazil to-date has centred on engagement with the first Science Without Borders programme. As part of this programme, students studied mainly on a semester basis in disciplines of Science, Engineering, Agriculture and Architecture at UCD. There are now more opportunities for the development of full degree student recruitment and research partnerships in Brazil.

In collaboration with the office of the UCD President, President Deeks welcomed Professor Tan Eng Chye, President of the National University of Singapore and his senior colleagues to UCD. NUS is a member of the Universitas 21 network and one of UCD’s most popular exchange partners. There are currently 97 students from Singapore in Dublin, while most UCD students from the region are enrolled in programmes taught locally. Tom Flanagan, Director of NovaUCD, gave a tour of the facilities there. The NUS team also met with Professor Dolores O’Riordan, Vice-President for Global Engagement, and her team.
