North American Global Centre – Update 2020
02 Oct 2020
There have been a number of staff and regional changes in the North America Global Centre (NAGC) in 2020. Since its inception in 2011, the NAGC has leveraged its regional presence to build the profile of University College Dublin across America, amplifying and expanding internationalisation efforts on campus.
While the headquarters is located in New York City, the NAGC extends its reach with additional regional representation in Boston, Chicago, and California. The team engages with a range of networks, associations, university partners, college counsellors, and those in search of a world class education across North America. By the integration of Recruitment and Admissions at the NAGC, the centre seeks to optimise the student experience from exploration to admission and ultimately, to their transition to campus. The NAGC is under the direction of Enda Carroll, Assistant Director, Study Abroad & The Americas who is based on campus in Dublin.
Shannon Farrelly was recently appointed to a Leadership role on the team in the position of Regional Lead, North & South America. While continuing to work in the New York office, Shannon manages the NAGC team and has a range of operational responsibilities in relation to the university's multi-faceted engagement with the region.
With the vacancy of a more junior Admissions Coordinator position, there was an opportunity to reformulate the role to a more senior position. Thus, the role of Senior Admissions Officer, North & South America was created. Jim Pierson was appointed to provide enhanced oversight of the admissions processes and take responsibility for the development of policies and projects in collaboration with the UCD Global Admissions team. He is also responsible for maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of international qualification systems in the region in order to contribute to the review of admission policy for UCD.
Patrick Smith was appointed to the role of North America Representative, College of Business. Similar to other NAGC sub-region representatives, Patrick reports to the Regional Lead and supports in a range of activities, contributing to the growth and development of student recruitment in North America. However, his primary role is to focus on Business study abroad, full-degree undergraduate and postgraduate student recruitment. He also hasresponsibility for delivery of recruitment targets for North America for both the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business and UCD Lochlann Quinn School of Business. Patrick is based in Boston and works closely with College of Business leadership, in addition to the College marketing and admissions teams.
