The Governing Authority is the Principal University governance and decision-making body in accordance with the Universities Act 1997 (the Act). The Governing Authority is chaired by an independent Chair appointed in accordance with s17(3) of the Act. The Sixth Governing Authority took office on 1 February 2019.

It has responsibility to ensure compliance with statutory obligations set out in the Act, and other relevant legislation.

UCD adopted the Code of Governance for Irish Universities 2019 in February 2019.

UCD is a registered charity and subject to the Charities Act 2009. The members of the Governing Authority are the charitable trustees. UCD complies with its obligations under the Charities Governance Code 2018. Its Registered Charity Number is: 20001520.
