UCD Health Affairs launch Academic Health Science Centre Lecture Series

IEHG and UCD Health Affairs kickstarted their Academic Health Science Centre Lecture Series in May in the Mater Hospital with Professor John Crown speaking on ‘The new world of cancer therapy’ at the Catherine McAuley Centre. Professor Crown was introduced by Professor Padraic MacMathuna and CEO of IEHG Ms. Mary Day at the 10th of May lunchtime lecture.

The following week Professor Donal Brennan gave a talk on ‘The future of academic oncology – is it viable?’ at the UCD lecture theatre in St Vincent’s University Hospital and answered many questions on his research and the future of academic medicine in Ireland.

Professor Tim Lynch – Chief Academic Officer of the Irish East Hospital Group - also gave a lunchtime lecture at the UCD Conway Institute on ‘The benefits of academic medicine’ to a large group of students, staff, clinicians and researchers.

Dr Rhona Mahony closed our successful lecture series on the 31st of May at the Education and Research Centre lecture hall in St Vincent’s University Hospital with a lecture on ‘Born in Ireland – delivering the future’.

These talks have brought to the attention of staff and the public the integral research that goes on within our hospitals and university and the very real benefit to patients that comes with this.

We hope to run another series of lectures in the autumn term at various venues within the IEHG network and would ask anyone who wishes to speak on their area of expertise to email (opens in a new window)health.affairs@ucd.ie
