Dublin Hospitals Cup - 2nd oldest Rugby Cup in the world
(Picutred: Mater Rugby Team)
This year’s Dublin Hospital’s Rugby Cup culminated in a thrilling encounter between the Mater Hospital and the Veterinary Hospital. A hugely physical Vets side were narrowly defeated by the Mater 15-12 on Friday night, 4th March 2022. This was the Mater's Team third cup in a row. The game was played in Old Belvedere on a perfect night for rugby union. Huge credit goes to both sets of players and their extended squads for the work they have put in over the last 6 months in advance of the occasion. The current Hospital’s Cup Committee of Niall Swan, Maurice Stokes, Matt Crockett, Mark Crowe, and President Con Feighery deserve a massive word of thanks for their perseverance and dedication to the competition in the face of numerous disruptions, and also thanks to Captain, Art Lynch and Mater's own President John Connelly, Coaches Stephen Maher, Rory Murphy and Manager Colm O’Brien. All involved, supporters and players alike, were delighted to have the competition back after last year’s hiatus. We look forward to future competitions with anticipation and an appetite for such tightly contested matches to continue to define the Hospital’s Cup.
