Healthy Eating Week 25th-28th of February 2019

Now in it's third year Healthy Eating Week is back for 2019 bigger than ever! With lots of events across the week for staff and students there is something for everyone! Take a look below at the drop down menus per day to see the packed line up. Catering outlets across campus will also be doing offers and fruit and water bundles all week so be sure to check them out!

  • Meet Donnacha O' Callaghan (former IRFU & Munster Rugby Player)

  • Nutrition and Mental Health; The Scientific Evidence

Speaker: Lorraine Brennan, Professor, UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science. Professor Brennan is Head of Human Nutrition in UCD and leads the Nutrition and Health theme within the Institute of Food and Health.

  • A Healthy Cooking Demonstration with Paolo Armani

Come along to see Paolo cook 2 healthy and delicious meals with help from the audience and some free tastings too!

When & Where: 1.10pm-1.30pm & 1.35pm-1.55pm (2 x 20 min sessions), Science Foyer

Built on the success of last year the Healthy Food Village is back! With over 20 vendors, there will be lots of free samples so get there early!

  • Sports Nutrition Basics: Fuel – Hydrate – Recover

Speaker: Ruth Wood-Martin, Registered Dietitian, Registered Sports and Exercise Nutritionist (SENr UK), Professional Member for Nutrition with the Irish Institute of Sport. She currently works full time as the Head of Nutrition with the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU).

  • What Should My Child Be Eating? Nutrition Workshop for Parents

This workshop will take a practical look at the healthy eating guidelines for children of different ages, and try to answer some of the common questions that parents face when planning meals and snacks for their kids.

  • Nutritional of the Non-Professional Athlete

Speakers: Lucy Mulhall, Elise O' Byrne White & Danielle Logue

When & Where: 1-2pm Elan Theatre, O' Brien Centre for Science

Come join an exciting panel of athletes as they discuss how they prepare for competitions and matches, where they source their nutritional information and the nutritional supports that are needed for non-professional athletes. Also featuring UCD PhD Student Danielle Logue who currently studys Sports Nutriton among Athletes. Q & A too.

An ideal talk for those who play sport, have an interest in sport or want ot know more about the optimum nutriton for sport.

  • Myth Busting & Know your Portion Sizes!

When & Where: 12-2pm in the Science Foyer (outside Pi)

Join the UCD Msc in Nutrition and Dietetics students with an interactive display, with lots of information on what consists of a healthy diet and busting the common myths surrounding it.

No tickets required- just turn up!

  • Nutrition Info & Questions Board: Gut Health

  • Eating for Health

This session will cover what our bodies need in terms of nutrition and how to match this to the foods we eat. We will challenge some of the nutrition myths that are out there with the aim of giving people solid and practical guidance navigating a diet that provides the body with complete nutrition.

Speaker: Sarah Keogh, Registered Dietician (Ms.c, BS.c, MINDI) with over 20 years experience working in nutrition and dietetics. Founder of eatwell.ie (@dieticianbytes)
