Jennifer Wellington explores the history of war trophies at
University College London
Dr Jennifer Wellington will be spending this academic year as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies at University College London. At the IAS, she is researching British and British imperial war trophies, and attempts to regulate or eradicate trophy-taking over the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This research forms part of her larger project on the history of war trophies: taking them, keeping them, displaying them, and conflicts over their legitimacy and return. By tracing continuities and changes in trophy-taking, Dr Wellington's research analyses the political power of objects, processes of national myth-making, and developments in ideas of ‘civilising’ war.
