Full Professor Tadhg ÓhAnnracháin has been awarded the NUI Irish Historical Research Prize 2023, for his monograph (opens in a new window)Confessionalism and Mobility in Early Modern Ireland (OUP, 2021). The Selection Panel described the book as an outstanding, ambitious, original scholarly achievement, noting that the book demonstrated conceptual sophistication with appropriate interdisciplinary elements.
The panel commended the bold approach, which allowed for the presentation of a fresh thematic reappraisal of the religious changes in early modern Ireland and a new understanding of the dynamics of confessional formation, practice, and identity in the specificity of the Irish situation. The panel congratulated the author on their carefully nuanced, balanced and innovative integration of current Irish, British, and European historiography.
The panel considered the book to be an exceptional intellectual achievement.
