Travel and Transculturality: Centring Isfahan in Early Modern Travel Writing and Drama

My research focuses on the city of Isfahan and its associations with travel writing and dramatic texts of the early Seventeenth Century. Engaging with theories of cultural exchange, travel, and transculturality, my research offers a new approach to the analysis of networks of cultural exchange in the early modern period. With a specific focus on Isfahan, the then capital of Safavid Persia, my research brings together my background in Central Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and Early Modern Drama and Travel Writing.
