Research Data Management Online Module
The School of Information and Communication Studies is pleased to announce that IS40760, “Research Data Management”, will be offered to practitioners as an LAI-accredited CPD course from June 2020 to August 2020 through the UCD Learning Management System, Brightspace. The module will be entirely online and asynchronous will run.
The cost of taking this module is €400 (€200 unwaged). Certificates will be issued by the LAI for course attendance/participation online.
This module will survey practices, services, technologies, and policy involved in managing research data: data management practices; national and international data policy, the role and nature of data in diverse disciplines and institutions (in particular open science and open data).
Most of the content has been developed and delivered by Ruth Geraghty is a Project Specialist in CES with expertise in research data management, evidence curation and open data. Ruth previously worked as Data Curator for the Children’s Research Network Prevention and Early Intervention (CRNINI-PEI) Research Initiative, supporting community organisations to archive their evaluation data. Prior joining CES in 2016, Ruth worked as a social researcher in the university sector and is co-author of the sociological text book Family Rhythms: The changing textures of family life in Ireland (MUP, 2016).
Kalpana Shankar will be coordinating the module and delivering content. She is a Professor of Information and Communication Studies at University College Dublin. Her research and teaching focus on the uses of data and information (digital and otherwise) in the social sciences, open data, and data archives.
