Our School's De Bhaldraithe Centre for Irish Language Scholarship has been awarded funding by Bliain na Gaeilge and the UCD Seed Fund to organise and host a conference on literary translation from and to Irish since the time of the Revival.
Minority language communities live on the border between languages and translation often acts as a door between these languages. This conference will allow researchers and professional practicioners in the field of translation to come together and analyse the role of translation to and from Irish since the Revival, the process of translation and the literary connections between Ireland and mainland Europe. Of special interest will be the recent literary translations of the famous novel Cré na Cille by Máirtín Ó Cadhain. The novel is available in 8 European languages to date and three of the translators will be with us on the day to shed new light on this complex text by discussing the challenges involved in translating the novel.
The conference will take place on campus on Saturday, 20th October 2018:
