MA / Graduate Diploma in Modern Irish
MA in Modern Irish / Graduate Diploma in Modern Irish
This MA programme is aimed at graduates of Modern Irish and graduates of cognate disciplines. Our aim is to promote and preserve the Irish language, literature and culture, and emphasise their importance for Irish society and European identity. Students will develop advanced linguistic skills in Irish and deepen their knowledge of Irish-language literature, culture and history.
Our aim is also to prepare students for a broad range of career paths, including education in Ireland and abroad, public service, editing and publishing, and further academic research. We assist students throughout in developing communicative, analytical and research skills.
We promote autonomous and collaborative learning by providing a vibrant academic environment for the teaching and use of the Irish language, supported by our multi-media language learning centre and our Student Space (An Seomra Caidrimh), to encourage Irish-language usage amongst the student body. All teaching and communication is conducted through the medium of Irish and in small groups. The programme uses teaching, learning and assessment approaches such as oral and written examinations, project work, essays and oral presentations, and a minor dissertation on a topic relating to the individual student’s academic interests.
