Briefing Session on Ireland’s First Dedicated 5G/IoT Accelerator Programme Takes Place at NovaUCD
A briefing session took place today at NovaUCD for entrepreneurs interested in participating in Ireland’s first dedicated 5G/IoT Accelerator Programme.
The aim of the programme, a collaboration between Vodafone, Ericsson and NovaUCD, is to assist 12 entrepreneurial teams who want to successfully launch 5G/IoT network-enabled products and services, as part of the Gigabit society.
The 10-week programme, which will take place at NovaUCD, starts in late May and will draw upon Vodafone and Ericsson’s deep technical expertise and market knowledge and NovaUCD’s experience in building compelling and investable propositions.
Tom Flanagan, UCD Director of Enterprise and Commercialisation said, “The 5G/IoT accelerator programme will offer 12 entrepreneurial teams the opportunity to validate their business cases and get access and support from Vodafone and Ericsson for developing and trialing new products and services that they hope to commercially launch on a 5G network.”
He added, “At the briefing session attendees learnt more about the specific workshops which will be delivered during the programme. Topics to be covered will include value proposition, pricing strategies, revenue and funding models, data security, marketing and scaling for global markets.”
During the briefing session Ciarán Carey. Product Manager, Vodafone Ireland discussed innovation with Vodafone through win-win partnerships. Dr Peter Marshall, Portfolio Manager 5G, Ericsson, who leads Ericsson’s ongoing collaboration with King’s College London, outlined a series of 5G use cases already demonstrated from across Europe.
Tom Flanagan concluded, “The 5G/IoT accelerator programme is aimed at established businesses, start-ups and academic researchers, in Ireland and abroad, and is suitable for a range of sectors including; agtech, medtech, transport, manufacturing, energy and utilities.”
Closing date for applications for the programme is 26 April at 12 pm.
