Diary entry of Michael J. Murphy, 1 March 1956

Querying the brothers about lore of Seals: nothing of any real point. But Hugh, who said they never liked to kill a seal; saying in his fast, difficult dialect:

“Every night that ever shines there’s a seal comes in to that big hole” – in the sea before the door of course – “and washes itself; we can hear the water splashing. Now, wouldn’t you wonder at an odd thing like that? You’d think he was clean enough in the sea all day without having to come into the big hole to wash himself.”
