Eilí Mac Eoghain agus an Rón

Fear a bhíodh ag fiach ar róinntibh agus do tháinig sé ar cheann acu, lá, agus í ag cur cúraim an oisín di. Dhírigh sé an gunna uirthi agus do labhair sí leis;

         “Moill ort go fóill,” arsa í, “a Éilín a’ Mhic Eoghain, go gcuirfead cúram an oisín díom.”

        “Moillfead agus go deo,” arsa é, agus níor lámhach sé aon rón eile acu i gcaitheamh a shaoil.

Eilí Mac Eoghain and the Seal

A man used to hunt seals and he came across one day and she was feeding a baby seal. He focused his gun on her and she spoke to him;

         “Stay your hand,” said she, “Oh Eilín Mac Eoghain, until I’ve given birth to my little seal.”

         “I’ll stay my hand now and forever,” he said, and he never shot another seal in his life.
