ArcGIS Online Transition to Secure EU Environment

Thursday, 24 April, 2025

To enhance data protection and align with GDPR and IT security best practices, UCD has transitioned to a new (opens in a new window)EU-hosted ArcGIS Online environment. This move is part of a joint initiative between UCD IT Services, UCD Library GIS, and the UCD School of Geography, in collaboration with ESRI.

All staff and students now have secure ArcGIS accounts created automatically at first login using UCD Connect credentials via SSO—no prior account request is needed. The EU environment has been actively used for teaching since Summer 2024 and is now the standard platform for all ArcGIS use at UCD.

What you need to do:
To ensure your data remains protected:

  • Review your ArcGIS content on the original (opens in a new window)US-hosted site.
  • Only migrate active or required data to your EU account using the steps outlined in our IT Services knowledge base articles (linked below).
  • Do not move unused data—it will be automatically deleted when the US site is retired.

What happens next?

Following ESRI guidelines, all users are responsible for reviewing their own content and copying any active data from their US account to their EU account by the end of the current term using the knowledgebase articles provided.  Users should ensure to use their ArcGIS EU account to test any moved data for accuracy and report any issues to the ArcGIS support channels. Any data that has not been transferred by the dates below will be lost.

Key dates:

  • 1 July 2025: Logins to the US site will be disabled.
  • 1 September 2025: US site will be fully retired and all remaining data deleted.

What if I need help?
