Sophos for macOS not receiving updates

Tuesday, 22 October, 2024

Recent changes to macOS have caused some Sophos services to stop working on Apple computers. When this issue occurs, Sophos updates will be unavailable until full disk access permissions are granted to the Sophos Updater.

To check if your computer is affected by this issue, click on the Sophos icon in the Menu Bar.  If your computer is affected, you will see the message “Some Sophos services are not running”.

Pop up window saying some sophos services are not running

To correct this issue:

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Select Privacy & Security
  3. Select Full Disk Access
  4. SophosUpdater should be listed. If it is not in the list, but the issue is occurring, add SophosUpdater manually by clicking +, and browsing to /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/SophosUpdater. SophosUpdater will now be listed. Turn it on and attempt an update.
