DTEN Quick Help

The DTEN unit automatically goes into 'sleep' mode when unused: this is a sustainability measure to save energy.

  1. Simply tap the screen to wake it up - do not switch off the DTEN unit.

  2. If the screen is still black, ensure that the power is switched on. The DTEN has an on/off button at the back.
Note: please be extremely careful with locating this button, particularly if the unit is wall-mounted. Log a ticket with the IT Helpdesk (ucd.ie/ithelp) if you are unsure how to find it.

  3. If the power is on, the machine is definitely on and the screen is still black, please log a ticket at ucd.ie/ithelp. Please provide the building and room name.

  • For an unscheduled Zoom meeting, tap New Meeting to start an instant meeting. You can then invite others using the Zoom meeting ID.

  • To join an existing Zoom meeting, tap Join and add the Zoom meeting ID. Then tap Join to enter the meeting.
Note: you will need the Zoom meeting ID and password.

  • You can also join a Microsoft Teams meeting by tapping the Microsoft Teams button.
Note: you will need the Teams meeting ID and password.

  6. You'll see the following Zoom screen-sharing controls - the same as the sharing controls during a Zoom meeting:

  7. Share your screen as usual.
Important: make sure to turn off the sound on your laptop and mute yourself in Zoom, to avoid audio feedback in the room.

  8. Select 'Stop Share' to stop presenting your screen.

See our IT Support Hub article: (opens in a new window)How do I share my screen on a DTEN? for full instructions.

When presenting in the DTEN room:

Please ensure to mute yourself on Zoom: click Mute
and
turn off the sound on your computer.

Muting yourself on Zoom will not stop the audio feedback, unless your computer is also muted.

To check the sound on the DTEN device:

  1. Ensure the volume is switched up on the DTEN device.
See (opens in a new window)How to change the volume on a DTEN screen for instructions.
Screenshot of the DTEN volume option
  2. Check if participants in other locations on the Zoom call have sound.
If no one has sound, it is likely not an issue with the DTEN unit.

  3. Leave the meeting and rejoin it.

  4. If the sound is still not functioning after this, please log a ticket via the (opens in a new window)UCD IT Support Hub at ucd.ie/ithelp.
Please provide the building and room name in your ticket.

UCD IT Helpdesk Normal Hours of Service: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, excluding holidays.

If you are a staff member or student at UCD and see an automatic message that your Zoom meeting will be limited to 40 minutes, please get in touch with the (opens in a new window)IT Helpdesk (ucd.ie/ithelp) to check your Zoom account settings.

If you have logged a call for technical support, please note that usual response times apply and immediate in-room support is not available for DTEN units. Callouts will be scheduled with our partner and this may take a few days.

If you have a meeting scheduled, we strongly recommend that you ensure that the equipment is working properly well in advance of a meeting. If you have an upcoming meeting and the DTEN unit is not working, you may need to use an alternative room. DTEN screens are available across the UCD campus.
