UCD Centre for Japanese Studies Launch Webinar Series

The UCD Centre for Japanese Studies was officially launched by two Webinars in February, with H.E. Mr Kitano (Ambassador of Japan to Ireland) and Prof. Bando (Chancellor of Showa Women’s University). We had a great turnout and lively discussions.
The event was organised in collaboration with UCD Japanese Society, the Embassy of Japan in Ireland, Ireland-Japan Association, Experience Japan and UCD Japan.

[1] 12 February 2021, 1-2pm “Why Japan Matters” Speaker: H.E. Mr Mitsuru Kitano (Ambassador of Japan to Ireland), with Prof. John Neary (School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice) & Dr Declan Downey (School of History)

[2] 16 February 2021, 9-10am “Why Women Leaders?” Speaker: Chancellor Prof. Mariko Bando (Chancellor, Showa Women’s University), with Prof. Gerardine Doyle (Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School) and Assoc. Prof. Emma Sokell (School of Physics, Deputy Director of the UCD Centre for Japanese Studies).
A special video letter was sent from Prof. Christina Davis (Director of the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations & the Susan S. and Kenneth L. Wallach Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University. Prof. Davis is also an external academic advisor for the Centre.
