Online-Treffen der Fachgruppe Technik (Online Meeting of the Technology & Society Section) for this year’s VSJF Annual Conference was held on Friday 15 November, 8-11am (IST). Assoc. Prof. Kodate moderated one session, as in the last four years.

The programme consisted of three parts, and the first two sessions were as below. The third session was free discussions.

Session A: AI Technology in Teaching and Learning in Japan and Germany

  • Potentials and Pitfalls of Generative AI in University Education: A Brief Experience Report from the Japanese-German Joint Degree in Transcultural Studies

Session B: AI and Virtual Technology in Research on Japan and Beyond

  • e-VITA: EU-Japan virtual coach for smart ageing, project description and results of the POC study
    Eva Jahn and Rainer Wieching, Siegen University, Germany
  • AI and the Language Bias: A Comment on Digital Monolingualism and its Impact on Knowledge Infrastructures for Japanese Studies Research Cosima Wagner, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany

Approx. 30 participants joined the 3hr long seminar, and discussed various aspects of AI/robotics in education, research and teaching in Germany, Japan and the English-speaking world.
