Professor Mary E. Daly is Principal of UCD College of Arts and Celtic Studies and a professor in the UCD School of History and Archives. A graduate of UCD (BA, MA) and Oxford (D. Phil.), her research and teaching has concentrated on 19th and 20th century Ireland. She is the author of 9 books and editor of 5, most recently, The Slow Failure. Population Decline and Independent Ireland 1922-70, (2006), and 1916 in 1966. Commemorating the Easter Rising (2007), co-edited with Margaret O’Callaghan. She is a member of the Higher Education Authority, the UCD Governing Authority, and Vice-President of the Royal Irish Academy.
