McCann Fitzgerald Law into Art Award

The UCD Sutherland School of Law and McCann FitzGerald are delighted to announce the McCann FitzGerald Law into Art Award which will be presented to the winner of the McCann FitzGerald Law into Art essay competition.

The aim of the competition is to include the UCD law student community in the process leading to the commissioning of a major art work for the Sutherland School of Law on the theme of the History of Law that will be presented by McCann FitzGerald to the Sutherland School of Law.

Competition Deadline: Friday March 4, 3pm

Prizes:

1st prize €750

2nd prize €500

3rd prize €250

To enter the competition a student must submit a list of what they see as the 10 key moments in legal history, at least five of which must directly relate to Irish law AND a 500 word essay (in English) on one of those moments explaining why it is significant and why it should be considered in the context of an art work relating to legal history. An indicative bibliography of not more than five sources should also be provided.

The application must include a cover sheet with name, student number, year, degree programme, and contact number of the applicant with a statement that the work is theirs and not from any other source. The essay and list themselves must have the student number only.  Only one submission per student is allowed. No joint or late submissions will be accepted. No additional material will be accepted in any form. Essays will not be returned.

Competition entrants agree to assign to the UCD Sutherland School of Law all rights, titles and interest in the submitted work and consent to the publication of the essay on the Sutherland School of Law and/or McCann FitzGerald website.

The decision of the adjudicating committee is final. Regard will be had to 

•Whether the work is complete

•Quality of presentation

•Relevance to the theme of the competition

•Show rigour, originality and creativity in reflecting on the theme of Law into Art.
