Library Systems Discovery Project
Updated 19 March 2025
What is it?
UCD Library is undertaking a major digital transformation project to enhance how users find, search for, and access library resources. This Discovery Project will inform the Library’s business case, quantify the financial resources required and help identify the most suitable Library Systems platform and associated tools. The findings will shape the Library’s work in the coming years as it plans for the implementation of enhanced systems.
The project focuses on identifying user requirements for:
- A potential new Discovery Platform to improve how users search for and access books, journals, and electronic resources.
- A new Reading List Management System to better support teaching and learning.
- A new Archival Management System to enhance the discovery and accessibility of archival collections.
This initiative will ensure that UCD Library continues to meet the evolving needs of its users by providing modern, integrated systems for discovering and accessing resources effectively.
Sponsored by Professor Colin Scott, UCD Registrar, Deputy President, and Vice President for Academic Affairs, this initiative aligns with the University’s Strategy to 2030.
Subject to the approval of the business case the next phase will be a project specific to implementation.
