About

Lyons Research and Teaching Farm (Lyons Farm) is a key enabler of UCD’s teaching and research ambitions. It forms an integral part of the teaching and research infrastructure of the College of Health and Agricultural Sciences, and specifically of the School of Agriculture and Food Science and the School of Veterinary Medicine.

UCD Lyons Farm is the teaching and research facility operated by University College Dublin outside Newcastle, Co Kildare, about 30 kilometres west of the main UCD Campus at Belfield. UCD Lyons Research Farm, which is part of the original Lyons Estate, was purchased by UCD in 1963. The house itself was formerly the seat of Lord Cloncurry and is a period house of national importance. The farm consists of approximately 250 hectares.

UCD is unique amongst third level universities in Ireland by having its own teaching and research farm to provide students and academics with access to large animal and crop enterprises for the delivery of teaching and research programmes.
