Maths Week workshops 2015 (posted 19/10/15)
The UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics hosted an evening of interactive workshops for secondary school students and their parents as part of Maths Week on Tuesday 13th October.

Head of School, Professor Gary McGuire, welcomed the audience and gave a short lecture on the mathematics of the circle and the mysteries surrounding the number Pi.

Students make mobius strips at Maths Week 2015

Dr Myrto Manolaki presented a workshop on The Geometrical Revolution, ranging from Euclidean to fractal geometry, via hands-on experimentation with oranges, Pringles and home made Möbius strips constructed from paper and scotch tape.

The event concluded with Dr Adrian O'Hagan discussing game theory and conducting a series of live simulations of "The Prisoner's Dilemma", with audience members taking centre stage in the games to compete for prizes.
