Abstract
Modified dispersion relations (MDR) are often advocated as a possible sign of new physics at the Planck scale. I shall present the state of the art and the main motivations which lead to the study of quantum observables in the presence of MDR. In particular, I will focus the attention on black holes and analogue models of gravity.
