Abstract
Improved computing capabilities have led to the development of new techniques to analyze large data sets. In this talk, I will discuss new topological methods for finding structure in point clouds. In particular, I will define persistent homology and present several examples of computations of the topology of data sets.
This talk is intended for a general mathematical audience; no expertise in the methods of algebraic topology will be assumed.
