Abstract:
The `Bishop' property was introduced recently by K. P. Hart, T. Kania and T. Kochanek, in order to gain a better understanding of linear operators defined on C(K)-spaces. The set of operators J on a C(K)-space satisfying Bishop always forms a closed left-sided ideal in the Banach algebra B(C(K)). The class of compact spaces K for which J is the whole algebra has not been fully delineated. We extend previous results by showing that two large classes of compact spaces have this property. In addition, we show that J is not always a two-sided ideal.
This is joint work with T. Kania, University of Lancaster.
There will also be an organisational meeting for the term's seminars at 3.45pm.
