Abstract:

In these two talks, we introduce Hilbert modular varieties and Hilbert modular forms. We will study the complex, p-adic and adelic setting and the interpretation of Hilbert modular forms as sections of suitable line bundles over the Rapoport locus of the Hilbert modular variety. We put emphasis on the action of the Hecke algebra, and explain the depletion operators and the Hida projector. Time permitting, we will give an overview of Hida theory in this setting. The object of these two talks is to provide the audience with the setting of the third talk, which is recent work by the speaker and Ignacio Sols (Madrid).
