Academic staff within the School of Medicine are deployed within one of six academic sections which integrate across subject area and geographical location. Academic sections are managed by a Section Leader or by a local Site Lead.
Our School is organised as six academic sections, comprising teaching and research staff under the direction of a senior academic staff member (Section Leader). Academic Sections are aligned around subject areas or clinical specialties.
General Practice and Forensic & Legal Medicine
Medicine & Medical Specialties
Surgery & Surgical Specialties
Sections are approved as fundamental organisational units within the University governance structures and several of our academic sections are larger than many Schools across the University. This organisational structure promotes collaboration, communication and ensures operational efficiency with respect to resource deployment and workload planning.
Recognised areas of academic expertise as approved by the University's Academic Council
Aggregates of cognate subject areas
Informal collaborations by a number of investigators around a common research theme
Larger groups of investigators within a formal research programme that is recognised by Academic Council
