Associate Professor Shane Foley is the Head of Subject for Radiography, having been the BSc Radiography Programme Director from 2015-2019. In his role as Head of Subject he has academic oversight of two undergraduate Radiography programmes as well as 28 post-graduate offerings from the Radiography and Diagnostic Imaging section. He is Chair of the Radiography Degrees Committee and also a member of UCD Academic Council. His primary research interests are in Computed Tomography, radiation dose and optimisation methods and is currently a partner in three European Commission funded projects in these areas.
He is a past president of the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy and remains active both nationally and in a European context via the European Federation of Radiographer Societies, of which he is an Executive Board member. He has chaired scientific committees for both European (ECR 2018/19 and European Radiation Protection Week, 2023), and international congresses (ISRRT, 2021) and continues as an external expert for the International Atomic Energy Agency.
